IOS 16: What’s New?

IOS 16: What’s New?

Currently on IOS 15, if Apple's regular updates are to be believed, IOS 16 should be released this year, in 2022. And yes, IOS 13 was released in June 2019, IOS 14 in September 2020, and the current IOS 15 in September 2021. These different operating systems are all released more or less 1 year apart, so if we follow the logical sequence, IOS 16 should be released in the summer of 2022 (between June and October).

So what new features will we find in this future update?

It should be noted that Apple has not revealed anything about its future improvements / innovations. We'll probably have to wait for Apple's WWDC (Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference) from June 6 to 10, 2022 to get official answers. But according to the rumours, we will be able to find:

😄 Emojis: as usual, very surely new emojis will be released.

🎨 New design: the aesthetic plan having not had big changes since IOS 7 in 2013, it is possible that the design of the home screen or some apps will change.

🎥 FaceTime: IOS 15 had made some changes to FaceTime such as grid display and call scheduling. To fit in with the times with lots of video conferencing and telecommuting, it is possible that the app will look more like platforms such as Zoom or Teams.

🕶 A/R and V/R items: As the metaverse begins to expand more and more, Apple may well incorporate some meta elements into the upcoming iOS 16.

📲 Widgets: And finally, we also expect to see a lot more widgets and much larger than the current ones. They are at the moment more informational than interactive. For example, the weather widget shows a stream of weather data, the map app shows a map, and Apple music shows the current song. Apple would probably change all this for a much more interactive side with the possibility to switch between different applications.

All these new features sound great, but will everyone be able to use them? In other words, will all Apple devices be compatible with iOS 16?

According to iPhonesoft (https://iphonesoft.fr/2021/12/20/ios-16-decouvrez-7-iphone-ipad-non-compatibles), one of Apple's developers has let it slip that iOS 16 will only work with iPhones with an A10 SoC or higher. This means the iPhone 7 and above (we can remove the iPhone 6s, 6s Plus and the iPhone SE 2016 from the equation). They also inform us that this latest operating system will not be compatible with the iPad Mini 4, iPad 5, iPad Air 2, and the 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
